How can you find success doing a side hustle? I’ve boiled it down to three main points.
Follow the System
The first is follow the system, the plan, the training – no matter what side hustle you pick, whether it’s working for a new telemed company, working at your local urgent care to pick up some extra shifts or running your own health coaching practice. Like myself, there’s going to be some sort of job description guide, mentor, and you want to tap into those things.
For health coaching, we have a very, very clear roadmap. It’s a document that I know front words, backwards, sideways, and I just live by it, die by it, and it’s very effective.
People who don’t follow it do not do very well.
Dedicate Time to Your Side Hustle
Second of all, when it comes to side hustles, it is an issue of time. So the more time you give to your hustle, you get better at it, you also gain confidence. You are an expert. So when we all start something new, we’re probably pretty clueless. We’re just trying to make it work as best we can and we fumble.
As a new health coach, I would be on phone calls and not totally sure of how to answer questions or what to say to encourage people, but over time, experience I learned. And now, I feel very equipped to handle most situations that arise and be a helpful mentor and coach to my clients. So don’t give up, just keep at it, give it time and you will be, get better and better with it.
Be Consistent
And the third point I like to make is consistency. So show up every day, even those days, you’re tired and don’t feel great. I am currently expecting my fourth child and I am sitting here in the car waiting for my six year old to get out of robotics. And you know, life is crazy. I need to get groceries and dinner and this and that and you know, there’s so much going on in life, but I have to focus in the limited time, make the most of my limited time to run my business. Actually I have more than one, but, you know, make the time to make those businesses successful.
So this hour that he’s in his class is time. I’m not going to waste. I’m not going to just surf my Facebook feed. It’d be fun and relaxing, but it’s not gonna get my goals accomplished. So I consistently show up for my various side hustles daily, even when I don’t feel well, even when I’m tired. If you’re more of a morning person, just wake up an hour earlier, put an hour in, first thing in the morning and then you know, well, hey, I accomplished that hour of consistency a day.
I encourage everyone out there who wants to truly succeed in whatever their side hustle is, follow the training, the roadmap that is provided to you to a t because smart people who came before you, put that together to help you succeed. Second, give it time. Don’t give up your second week. Give it at least you know, whatever time you want, but just be sure to give it a fair chance. And if I had given up at month three of health coaching, I’d really regret it looking at where I am now. And the third is being consistent. So, you know, the going’s gonna get tough, they’re gonna be roadblocks. You’re gonna get tired and sick and you still need to put in the time. And if you do and you’re consistent about it, it will pay off.
