Expanding access to mental health care
Eric Steger and his co-founder, Gianni, started Clearview Mental Health to make care more accessible. The practice offers both therapy and psychiatric care, treating anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, and PTSD, grief, and co-occurring substance use, with personalized treatment plans built on evidence-based approaches.
In less than two years, the fully virtual practice has grown to serve patients across Ohio, Michigan, and North Carolina, including those in rural and underserved communities. Accepting Medicaid has been part of its model from day one.
For Eric, that commitment is a point of pride: “What I’m most proud of is that a Medicaid patient in a small town gets the same quality of care as anyone else.”
He credits Clearview’s therapists and psychiatric nurse practitioners with making that possible. Keeping those providers supported became especially important when the practice needed to change physician collaboration partners.
The challenge: Switch partners without interrupting care
Clearview’s psychiatric nurse practitioners rely on physician collaboration to practice. When the organization’s collaboration vendor fell short on responsiveness and billing practices, Clearview had a decision to make: continue with the existing vendor, or find a partner that could meet both current and future needs.
But switching meant managing a critical risk: a lapse in collaboration could interrupt patient care. With a small team operating across three states, Clearview also needed a partner who understood each state’s requirements and could manage the transition without adding to the founders’ workload.
“Switching partners while keeping our providers continuously covered was stressful, because we couldn’t afford any gap that would interrupt patient care.”

Why Clearview chose CollabDocs
Clearview evaluated several options against three priorities:
- Transparent pricing to avoid the billing issues it had experienced with its previous marketplace-based vendor.
- State-specific expertise across Ohio, Michigan, and North Carolina.
- A coordinated transition that would keep every NP covered throughout the switch.
CollabDocs stood out on all three.
The transition: Every NP matched in one week
The CollabDocs NP-led onboarding team met with each of Clearview’s NPs to have the critical peer to peer conversation that fuels an intelligent matching process.
Within one week of the first meeting, every NP had begun their relationship with their new physician. Collaboration coverage remained uninterrupted throughout the transition.
Eric said “CollabDocs made the transition seamless. Our NPs stayed covered the whole time. They went above and beyond by meeting with each of our NPs individually to find the best fit.”
The results: Continuous coverage and more time to grow
The transition delivered what Clearview needed: every psychiatric NP matched in one week, no gaps in collaboration coverage, and a partner with expertise across all three states.
It also meant less administration work for the founders, so they could focus on hiring more psychiatric providers and deliver high quality patient care.
Eric’s advice: Make collaboration a priority
For Eric, the experience reinforced the importance of choosing a collaboration partner carefully, especially when operating across multiple states.
“Don’t treat physician collaboration as an afterthought. It’s foundational to your practice and a bad fit costs you time, money, and peace of mind. Ask hard questions up front about pricing, state coverage, and how they handle transitions. If you’re growing across multiple states, you want a partner who can grow with you.”
